"Nature's Packing Pattern", Illustrator Digital Print on Canvas, 34" x 19", Framed, Sold
In order to best collect the light, I observed that a particular plant produced leaves of only three sizes. Combined, the smaller two leaves had the same area as the largest leaf, allowing for an optimal packing of the leaves into a limited area to capture the most sunlight.

On a dreary March day, I walked in search of finding the colours of Spring. There were none to be found. However, the melodic song of the Western Meadowlark filled the air. I made a recording and correlated the pitches to wavelengths of colours and the amplitudes to colour saturations. I assembled all the "colour notes" and arranged them into a rectangular picture format. In the following days, I found recordings of other birds and created visual compostions of each bird's song.

When plant cells divide to grow and develop, mathematical patterns develop within their structure. Along with the spiral, this pine tree's new growth involves a multiple of the inverse of Phi (phi = 0.681).
